Anthony Martial will continue to thrive at Manchester United

How much? That was the question on everyone's lips when Manchester United secured the services of the little known French youngster Anthony Martial last summer.

Eight months later and it appears that the price the Red Devils paid AS Monaco for the dynamic forward is irrelevant.

That's because Martial has enjoyed a glorious campaign on English soil and has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting players in world football.

It has been yet another season of transition for Louis van Gaal's side - they have once again failed to produce the goods in terms of consistency - but they have had a great deal of success with a number of their young players.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah look set for huge futures in the game, but it's unlikely that they will reach the heights of Martial. He is a superstar in the making and may well go on to become one of the leading players in the Premier League.

But how good has his debut season really been? In England's elite division and Europe alone this term, Martial's statistics are very impressive.

DraftKings statistics show that he has scored 14 goals from just 70 shots. Almost half of his shots (33) have hit the target.

It must be noted, of course, that Martial has been played out of position under Van Gaal's regime. Time and time again, the versatile Frenchman has operated on the left wing, but that hasn't exactly phased him in the pursuit of success.

Martial has caused havoc throughout the course of the campaign with his pace and strength and he's only going to become more powerful as he continues to grow and develop as a player.

He may well be a striker by trade, but his DraftKings statistics prove that he is a major threat on the wing. Against West Ham United this past week, Martial was at his sublime best as he hit a brace, but his all round play shouldn't be underestimated at this stage.

Indeed, according to DraftKings, Martial has drawn 66 fouls, crossed the ball 58 times and assisted three goals. He's by no means the finished article, but he appears to possess a little bit of everything.

That notion can be confirmed further when analysing his defensive numbers: DraftKings statistics show that he has won 21 tackles and intercepted the ball on nine occasions.

Ultimately, the technically gifted star isn't afraid to do the dirty work, but it's clear for all to see that he's at his best with the ball at his feet.

United fans have already shared some special moments with Martial, of course: his debut goal against Liverpool will never be forgotten, while his last minute winner in the FA Cup semi-final against Everton was pivotal. His rise in the game has been outstanding and there's nothing that will stop him becoming an elite player.

This campaign has been a tremendous one for Martial, but it has been a learning curve. It's easy to forget that he has had to step up as the main man in a side struggling for consistency. There's every chance that he will be even better in 2016/17.

Ultimately, Martial's Old Trafford adventure has only just begun. The words 'Tony Martial scores again' will be sung for many years to come in Manchester.
