Rafa Benitez will decide whether he is staying at Newcastle in the next two weeks, according to Sky Sports

The Spaniard has hinted that there is a good chance he will stay, but he could be given a number of other options this summer, with Everton reportedly interested.

Benitez was unable to keep the Magpies up, and they were eventually relegated in the most agonising manner imaginable, being condemned by Sunderland's victory over Everton.

Benitez needs time

However, while Newcastle looked certain for the drop under predecessor Steve McLaren, Benitez at least gave them some hope with draws against Manchester City and Liverpool and a 3-0 thrashing of Swansea.

In their penultimate game of the season, though, they could only draw with rock-bottom Aston Villa, and that sealed their fate as much as the Black Cats' win.

Newcastle fans will be desperate for him to stay, as he has had nowhere near enough team to turn things around, as was the case when club legend Alan Shearer took them down. He has got the best out of Andros Townsend and Jamaal Lascelles, and has vastly improved the Mags as a whole.

Yet, the Everton job could tempt him because he enjoyed his time living in Liverpool.

Optimism for the future

The 56-year-old has never managed in the Championship before, but he may be buoyed by the fact that after their previous relegation, Newcastle bounced back at the first attempt.

If he seems himself in the north-east for the long run, then he may be able to have another stab at the Premier League with them in the future.

He brings an array of experience to St James' Park, having managed Liverpool, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, famously overseeing the Reds' famous Champions League victory in 2005.

Newcastle may be questioning their status as a big club right now, but Benitez certainly has the mentality to turn that around.
