The New Day have been WWE Tag Team Champions since they won a fatal four-way match involving The Prime Time Players, The Lucha Dragons, and Los Matadores at SummerSlam last year.
This is their second time as tag team champions, and they have been the title holders for almost 270 days, although they haven't defended the titles that many times during that time period.
They are worthy champions, however, the work of The New Day members - Big E, Xavier Woods, and Kofi Kingston - over the past year has cemented their status as the best tag team in the company today. There is not one tag team in the division that is close to their level.

The stable will be defending their titles this Sunday at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view against The Vaudevillians. If they are able to retain, they could come close to breaking a WWE record in the not so distant future.
When The New Day won the tag team titles for the first time in their history last year at Extreme Rules, they held onto them for 49 days until they lost them to The Prime Time Players at Money in the Bank in June 2015.

Adding this onto their current reign and you have a cumulative tag team title of 316 days (as of the time of writing). This is only 15 days behind Paul London and Brian Kendrick's 331-day reign that spread across 2006 and 2007. The New Day would be one week away from history if they are able to come out of Extreme Rules victorious against Aiden English and Simon Gotch.
The likelihood is that the WWE will allow Big E, Woods, and Kingston to overtake London and Kendrick and become the new record holders - meaning they will retain at Extreme Rules - but who should they lose the titles to?
The Realest Guys in the Room
One of the hottest tag teams in the company today behind The New Day are Enzo Amore and Big Cass. They could be booked in a way to have an incentive to chase after the Tag Team Championship.
Amore has been out for a couple of weeks due to a concussion he picked up during the number one contender's match for the Tag Team titles against The Vaudevillians at Payback earlier this month. He is due to make his return anytime, and they should be entitled to a match against The New Day for the titles.
Cass has been working well on his own since his tag team partner was sidelined, and he has been keeping the team relevant with the WWE Universe. They would be the ideal team to win the Tag Team Championship off The New Day on the day they break the record or sometime after.
