Barcelona possess a formidable starting XI - arguably the best in the world - but the quality of those players on the fringes of the first team leaves a lot to be desired.

It’ll subsequently come as no surprise to fans at the Camp Nou that Luis Enrique is planning a summer clear-out.

According to the Mirror, five Barcelona players are set to be culled this summer.

The likelihood is that the quintet have already made their final appearances for the Catalan giants, despite the fact the Copa del Rey final takes place on Saturday night.

Marc Bartra, Adriano, Thomas Vermaelen, Sandro Ramirez and Douglas have all been deemed surplus to requirements and are expected to leave the reigning European champions before the beginning of the 2016-17 campaign.

Marc Bartra sale would be a surprise

If true, the decision to offload Bartra would arguably be the most surprising call.

Barcelona aren’t exactly blessed with an array of centre-backs and neither Gerard Pique or Javier Mascherano are getting any younger.

The 25-year-old has played 24 times for Barca this season, scoring two goals, and would command the highest transfer fee of all the players on the club’s unwanted list.

It’s understood that Valencia, Sevilla and clubs in England are all keen to sign the Spain international.

Douglas and Sandro less so

In less surprising news, Barcelona want to get rid of Douglas, who has looked hopelessly out of depth from the moment he arrived at the Camp Nou from Sao Paulo in 2014.

Sandro has also failed to make the grade, despite showing some promise when he first burst onto the scene. The 20-year-old was always going to find getting game-time difficult, however, due to the presence of the ‘MSN’.

Same with Adriano and Vermaelen...

Adriano, meanwhile, is expected to complete a move to Serie A - the Mirror claim the Brazilian full-back is in talks with Lazio - and Barcelona will be lucky if they get anything for Vermaelen.

The Belgian defender has made a handful of appearances for the Primera Division champions since completing a surprise £15 million move from Arsenal two summers ago.

Arda Turan could also leave

The report also adds that Barcelona are willing to listen to offers for Arda Turan.

Big things were expected from Arda following his summer move from Atletico Madrid, but adapting to the style of play at the Camp Nou has proved troublesome for the Turkey international.
