The Real Madrid striker posted a picture hugging his daughter Melia on a bed, while the crest of the Red Devils can be seen on the bedroom table.
It was accompanied with the caption “M❤” with some hoping that ‘M’ stood for Manchester United, rather than Melia.
Michael Owen claimed that Benzema turned down a move to Sir Alex Ferguson’s United side in 2008 before choosing to move to the Bernabeu - so could he be tempted with a possible reunion with Jose Mourinho - who is likely to replace Louis van Gaal - at Old Trafford?
Of course, there is likely to be a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why there is a United badge in his bedroom but it hasn’t stopped supporters getting a bit excited about the prospect of Benzema joining them.
The striker has had a terrific campaign for Los Blancos, scoring 24 goals in 27 La Liga matches - 28 in 35 in all competitions.
However, he won’t be appearing for France as they host the European Championships. Benzema has been caught up in controversy off the pitch with Lyon midfielder Mathieu Valbuena and the French football governing body have ruled him out of competing this summer.
On the pitch, Benzema could help his Real Madrid side win the Champions League when they face city rivals Atletico in Milan next weekend.
It’s unlikely that Benzema was trying to tell everyone he was set to move to United but supporters can dream, right?
