Arsenal will renew their interest in Argentina wonderkid Max Romero this summer as Arsene Wenger continues to scour the globe for the best young talent.

The Gunners had a £4.5million deal in place to sign Romero last summer but pulled out at the last minute when he suffered a serious knee injury.

But the 17-year-old has recovered sufficiently from the setback to the point that Wenger is ready to renew his attempts to bring him to north London.

According to The Mirror, Romero is still very much on Arsenal's radar as they go in search of revamping their forward line.

Romero would, of course, have serious problems obtaining a work permit and may instead have to go out on loan to a European club to gain a passport that would allow him to play in England automatically in several years time (so long as the United Kingdom does not leave the EU).

Recovery

The young striker has progressed well in the last 12 months despite his problems with injury. He has since made his senior debut for the team, scoring three goals in ten appearances.

Needless to say, Romero is more valuable than he was last year, meaning Arsenal face having to pay even more than the £4.5m they were originally going to pay. However, Arsenal would still want Romero to prove his fitness in what is sure to be a stern medical examination before agreeing any deal.

Senior targets

While Romero is an exceptional talent, he would not make an impact on Arsenal's first-team in the near future. And with the Gunners in need of a striker now, Wenger is likely to go in pursuit of an established hitman this summer.

Alvaro Morata of Juventus is rumoured to be his No.1 target, but any deal is reliant on Real Madrid activating their buy-back clause with the Italian club. Los Blancos plan to buy the 23-year-old for around £25m before selling him on for a significant profit. Arsenal may need as much as £40m to bring him in and face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea.

The Premier League runners-up are also expected to announce the arrival of Granit Xhaka this week with a £30m deal already agreed with his club Borussia Monchengladbach. Xhaka was photographed in Arsenal's new kit over the weekend and images of the official shoot were leaked online.

There is also interest in other young players with Bolton’s England under-21 defender Rob Holding and Celtic’s left-back Kieran Tierney on the radar while Leicester's Ben Chilwell is also a target.
