WWE Extreme Rules last weekend saw all the titles in the company put on the line, including the WWE Intercontinental Championship and the United States Championship.
The Miz successfully defended the IC title in a Fatal 4-way against Kevin Owens, Cesaro, and Sami Zayn at the pay-per-view, while Rusev became the new US title holder after defeating Kalisto on the same night.
However, WWE announced last night that both the Intercontinental Championship and the United States Championship will be on the line on this week's SmackDown.

The Swiss Superman will have another shot at the IC title against The Awesome One, while The King of Flight will have his rematch for the US title against The Bulgarian Brute.
Cesaro battled against The Miz this week on Monday Night Raw to determine who will be entered into the Money in the Bank ladder match at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view next month. Cesaro won, but pinning The Miz in the process in a non-title match earned himself another shot at the IC title.
Both of these men were involved in the Fatal 4-way match at Extreme Rules with Owens and Zayn, which was highly praised by fans and critics alike, with some even suggesting it was a match of the year candidate. Not only did it have an unpredictability factor to it, it had lots of believable near falls and saves, as well as enhancing the feud between K.O. and The Underdog from the Underground.
Cesaro displayed his amazing in-ring skills that earned him the nickname The Swiss Sensation, while The Awesome One continued with his brilliant heel persona that he has managed to grasp with both hands since winning the IC title the night after WrestleMania. The Miz vs Cesaro is bound to live up to the same expectations.
Cesaro needs another title run at some point and now with the Intercontinental Championship over his shoulder would be the perfect time. He's unlikely to win the Money in the Bank ladder match, but promising feuds are on the horizon for him for sure.
As for Kalisto vs Rusev, this could be just a match to remove Kalisto from the title picture for the time being. He was scheduled for a rematch after losing the championship at Extreme Rules, but with John Cena returning and possibly feuding once more for the United States Championship, Kalisto would just be a third wheel in that feud.
WWE is booking Kalisto to become the next Rey Mysterio, and there are many other ways they can go about that rather than have him in a title picture. The King of Flight should still have a strong booking entering SummerSlam as the company looks to continue this booking angle, but probably won't win his rematch on SmackDown.
