WWE may still have big plans for AJ Styles

Published 22 Comments

AJ Styles has had quite a few months since he debuted in the WWE back in January at the Royal Rumble to a huge pop.

He entered a storyline with Chris Jericho, which led to one on one matches between the two superstars at Fastlane and at WrestleMania 32, both which were both lost by The Phenomenal One.

After The Showcase of The Immortals, he entered into a feud with the newly crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns after winning a fatal four-way match to determine who the number one contender would be.

He then reunited with former Bullet Club members Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows to form The Club, who would then go on to try and help Styles win or interfere in his matches. After he failed twice to gain the title at Payback and Extreme Rules, Styles lost his chance to earn the WWE title.

This week on Monday Night Raw, he ended his relationship with The Club and also lost to Kevin Owens in a Money in the Bank qualifier match, meaning his booking direction is currently up in the air.

Cageside Seats have speculated The Phenomenal One is still going to have a big role. They said: "Apparently WWE still has big plans for AJ Styles despite his losing to Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens over the past few days, according to the Observer."

It's good to see WWE still could use a great talent like Styles, unlike what they have done in the past with wrestlers that have made their name at other promotions. It's good to see the company won't be wasting his talents in the ring and on the mic.

As for a possible opponent, that is up in the air. However, WWE recently polled their fans on their website asking who they would like to see John Cena face when he returns - AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Owens, The Miz, Rusev, or Reigns.

As of writing, there is an overwhelming majority voting to seeing the leader of the Cenation face The Phenomenal One with 47%. Reigns was second highest with 23% while Rusev was third with 12%.

There have also been rumors that Cena could face Alberto Del Rio upon his return, but if the WWE was to follow their fans opinion, we could be in store for what is bound to be a brilliant match between Cena and Styles at Money in the Bank, before the former likely moves on to face Reigns at SummerSlam for the WWE title.
