Cristiano Ronaldo wants Jose Mourinho to get Manchester United back to the top

Published 6 Comments

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that he's hoping to see Jose Mourinho help Manchester United return to the top.

Mourinho is set to be announced as Louis van Gaal's successor at Old Trafford imminently and it appears that his former player thinks the Red Devils are set to make a good decision.

In fact, Ronaldo, who is recognised as a legend at the Theatre of Dreams, claims the club have lost their identity in the past couple of years.

Under Van Gaal's regime, United failed to produce exciting, attacking football and failed to secure a place in next season's Champions League.

United did, however, win the FA Cup this past weekend, but that wasn't enough to save Van Gaal from the sack. Ronaldo, then, is hoping to see his former side move forward under Mourinho's regime.

Ronaldo speaks out

As per the Daily Mail, the Portuguese superstar, who is set to line up for Los Blancos in this weekend's Champions League final against Atletico Madrid, told Spanish programme 'Jugones': "He's already signed hasn't he? I think it's good. If it's something United wanted, I think it's good.

"I hope Manchester United get back to being what they were because it's an impressive club but in the last years they lacked an identity a bit.

"And it hurts me seeing United like that because it's a club I carry in my heart. I wish Mourinho can restore them back to the top."

Mourinho incoming

The Old Trafford faithful will most definitely be hoping to see Mourinho bring the good times back to the club after a dismal period.

Van Gaal, of course, ended the club's trophy drought in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, but it's clear for all to see that there's a long way to go in the pursuit of redemption.

Changes will certainly be made between now and the start of the new campaign and it will be very interesting to see the team Mourinho selects on the opening day of the 2016/17 season.

Mourinho hasn't even been named the club's next manager yet, but numerous names have already been linked to join up with him in Manchester.

It's safe to say, though, that Ronaldo won't be reunited with Mourinho at the Theatre of Dreams.
