Published 12 Comments

While Neymar might enjoy humiliating goalkeepers during training sessions and in matches, the Barcelona superstar clearly has respect for those brave footballers who play in the most unforgiving position on the pitch.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, there are five ‘keepers that Neymar admires - although three of them are now retired.

Neymar, keen to avoid sparking controversy, decided against naming either of his Barcelona teammates Claudio Bravo and Marc-Andre ter Stegen. (Scroll down to see Neymar’s top five).

1. Marcos

A one-club man, Marcos made over 500 appearances during his 20-year career with Palmeiras in Brazil.

The 42-year-old, who retired in 2012, also made 29 appearances for the Brazilian national team.

According to Neymar, per Red Bull, Marcos is the greatest.

2. Dida

Neymar’s second pick is Dida, the man who prevented Marcos from winning more Brazil caps.

Brazilian goalkeeper Dida fails to stop

Known in Europe for his 10-year spell with AC Milan, Dida won a host of major honours with the Rossoneri including the Serie A title and two Champions Leagues.

3. Julio Cesar

Julio Cesar also enjoyed plenty of success in Europe during his illustrious career.

The 36-year-old, who now plies his trade for Benfica following a disappointing spell with Queens Park Rangers, made 87 appearances for the Seleção and won five league tiles and the Champions League with Inter Milan.

4. Claudio Taffarel

Claudio Taffarel made over 100 appearances for the Brazilian national team between 1988 and 1998.

The former Parma and Galatasaray number one helped Brazil win the World Cup in 1994.

5. Victor Valdes

Best known for his hugely-successful 12-year spell with Barcelona, Victor Valdes played alongside Neymar for one season at the Camp Nou and clearly made a big impression on the forward.

Sadly, we’ve seen little of Valdes since his departure from Barca.

Following a disappointing loan spell with Standard Liege, Valdes is back with Manchester United but is expected to be released later this summer.
