The Shield's strangle hold over WWE came to an end on June 2nd 2014 and since then both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have reached the heights of the company by both winning the World Championship and main eventing WrestleMania.
The one person who has failed to make an impact since the Shield dissolved is Dean Ambrose, which is a huge shock considering he was one of the stand out members when the group were together.
Vince Russo was recently interviewed on WrestleZone Radio and he talked about the fact that talent is having such a problem in today's era because they are unsure of their own characters and he names Ambrose specifically stating that he is a product of poor writing.

THE LUNATIC FRINGE?
WWE decided early on in Ambrose's career that he would be referred to as The Lunatic Fringe, a name that was once given to members of the social and political movement with eccentric or fanatical views.
These were the outlaws and WWE were hoping that this would come over in Dean Ambrose's character, but sadly it hasn't. Ambrose has failed to show the WWE Universe that he is a lunatic, as Russo stated, WWE can't expect to call someone a lunatic and then that is what they become.
The Asylum match back at Extreme Rules should have fully allowed Ambrose to indulge in his character but even that was a disappointment because it failed to follow through as the uncontrolled violent match it was billed to be.
DESTINED TO BE A FAILURE?
Is Dean Ambrose's lack of character development the real reason that he has failed to capture the World title despite being given more opportunities than many of the current roster.
Ambrose needs a career defining feud and he needs to be given more character development by the creative team. He needs something that the WWE Universe can cling onto to allow them to feel like they are connected to him, because right now the connection is lacking and it is impossible to tell what character Ambrose is playing.
When Ambrose was Jon Moxley on the independent circuit it was easy to see what his character was, which means that it is WWE that is failing Ambrose right now. The company needs to invest in character development for many of their main stars and at least ask for their input when it comes to creating ideas.
