Stone Cold believes Cody Rhodes has left the WWE at the wrong time

Published 3 Comments

When Cody Rhodes announced to the wrestling world that he would be leaving the WWE, fans were shocked and couldn’t understand why.

Everybody thought the former superstar would stay with the WWE for life because of his family connection with the company, his father being the wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes and his brother being Goldust. He then revealed that due to poor creative booking for his character, he was no longer happy with the company and couldn’t stay any longer.

Since then, a lot of people – fans, critics and WWE superstars alike – have provided their two cents on Rhodes’ decision to leave the company. WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin is another name you can add to that list.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Steve Austin Show, The Texas Rattlesnake believes Rhodes has left at the wrong time because the upcoming brand extension may have provided better opportunities for his character in the WWE.

He said according to Wrestling Inc: "Cody Rhodes decided to ride off into the sunset. He wasn't happy with creative [and] he wasn't happy that he couldn't do what he wanted to do.

“His value would have been at an all-time high because of the brand split and they're going to need all hands on deck. And so maybe him leaving wasn't such a good idea, to take himself out of the picture, as he might have had a little bit more leverage or might have been used in a higher regard due to the brand split because they're going to need all the talent they can muster."

With both Raw and SmackDown promised unique rosters once the brand extension comes into fruition, Rhodes would have been a great piece for either roster to have because not only is he young, but he is also very experienced thanks to being involved with the WWE for so long, and he also has great in-ring ability and promo skills.

Yet, his release does have a silver lining as it has created a roster spot for deserving NXT stars to be called up and take advantage of the booking opportunity he would have received. There are some who believe Rhodes would have got lost even more in the shuffle in the brand split thanks to the WWE promoting the New Era of superstars.

This isn’t the end for Rhodes however. He has already created a list of wrestlers he would like to share the ring with and already has one of those matches arranged, against Kurt Angle. Austin doesn’t know if Rhodes will stay in the wrestling world, but he wishes him the best in the future.

He said: "I don't see him in Japan. I love the kid. I love Cody. I think he's a real talented guy, but where does he go from here if it's going to be in the wrestling world?

"I wish that guy all the luck. He's a good kid and I've been friends with the [Rhodes] family forever. Dusty meant so much to my wrestling career and I used to travel the world with Dustin and I got to know Cody a little bit, so I wish the guy all the luck in the world."
