When reports emerged on Friday evening about Arsenal triggering Jamie Vardy’s release clause, many people struggled to believe it.
The 29-year-old may have had an incredible campaign for Leicester, helping them to win the Premier League, but he wasn’t linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium.
But suddenly and remarkably, it now appears he’s on the verge of completing a move to Arsenal after the Gunners forked out the reported £20 million needed to capture him.

Vardy only signed a new deal in February worth a reported £80,000-per-week which lasts until 2019. When you consider that there is Champions League football at Leicester next season - something he helped achieve - it would be a real shame to see him jump ship.
But, if you’re still doubting the reports suggesting Vardy is close to securing a move to Arsenal then think again.
That’s because his manager Claudio Ranieri has confirmed it. He told Gazzetta dello Sport that “it’s all true.”
Discussions have accelerated at such a pace that the Daily Mail are reporting that it could be completed in the next 24 hours. Vardy and his England squad leave for Euro 2016 on Monday are the Gunners are hoping to have it wrapped up by then.
Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has said that he doesn’t want players discussing moves or undergoing medicals during the tournament meaning Arsenal have been urged to complete the deal.
With Vardy turning 30 in January, he knows it’s now or never to join a big Premier League club and it’s reported that he wants a four-year deal worth in excess of £100,000-per-week.
It may not eclipse Ibrahimovic’s arrival at Manchester United but Vardy to Arsenal would be a sensational move.
