Sevilla midfielder Steven N'Zonzi has emerged as a surprise target for new incoming Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, according to The Sun.

N'Zonzi has been nothing short of a revelation at Sevilla, shining brightly in a highly talented Sevilla team, that has just recently retained the Europa League for a record breaking third year in a row.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, with him being included in the Europa League Team of the Season. His recent form seems to have also caught the eye of Conte, with the Italian reportedly being very interested in bringing the Frenchmen in for next season.

With Chelsea reportedly willing to pay up to £21 million to bring the player in, three times what Stoke City received for the player, it's clear to see just how much his stock has risen since joining the La Liga outfit.

This will undoubtedly cut Stoke fans deep, as they never wanted him to leave in the first place, but the club were unable to tie him to a new deal after he had just been named their Player of the Season.

However, because of N'Zonzi's obvious talent and recent glistening form, the midfielder will not come cheap, and that is why Chelsea would have to fork out three times more than what Sevilla did.

After being one of the standout players in a hugely successful Europa League campaign, it is highly likely Sevilla would be interested in keeping him, so perhaps Chelsea will have no choice but to trigger his £21 million release clause if they are serious in bringing him to Stamford Bridge.

It could be money well spent, however, as Chelsea's defensive frailties were unmasked and undoubtedly exploited last season. With Nemanja Matic and John Obi Mikel coming under heavy criticism, perhaps N'Zonzi could be the solution or at least part of it.

Chelsea will face competition for the midfielder, however, as Leicester City are also reportedly keen on signing him. The newly crowned champions of England look set to do battle for the midfielder, as they seek a potential replacement for N'Golo Kante, should he leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

So it seems N'Zonzi has some decisions to make ️as it is reported he could be tempted back to England, albeit for a title challenging team, and despite last season's shortcomings, Chelsea still must be considered one of them.

However, Sevilla can offer something Chelsea cannot. Champions league football, something Leicester can also boast.

This will only make his decision more difficult, as playing with Europe's elite is obviously a huge carrot and temptation. However, with Sevilla having a reputation for selling players for a profit, the potential return may be too tempting to resist making it all the more likely N'Zonzi will move clubs this summer.

No matter what, it's safe to say whoever can land his signature will receive a midfielder who can not only play the passing side of the game but also sure up the team defensively.
