Forget the North West football hubs of Manchester and Liverpool – the city most looking forward to Euro 2016 is Norwich.

And the results certainly made for interesting reading with Norwich coming out on top in the internet searches study with Derby second, Nottingham third and Newcastle fifth.

It may be no coincidence either that, in each instance, those cities are home to football teams that have suffered either relegation or missed out on promotion.
Norwich, for example, slipped back down to the Championship after just one season in the Premier League.
The Canaries endured a miserable run of form at the back end of the season that saw the club lose five of their final six league fixtures.
Despite the poor form of their local team, however, it would appear that the residents of Norwich are keen to forget all about Alex Neil’s side ahead of an exciting summer of international football.
Cambridge, Brighton and Bristol also featured in the top 10 for Euro 2016 searches, with the theme for cities with underwhelming local sides continuing in the countdown.
On a global scale meanwhile, it would appear that Ukraine is the country most excited about the tournament with the country coming out on top in terms of the number of people searching for ‘UEFA Euro 2016’ across the continent.
Russia was second – evidently excited ahead of the 2018 World Cup, which they will host – with the UK down in third.
It’s all shaping up to be a memorable few weeks for England, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland and, most importantly, Norwich.
