Hugo Lloris makes terrific save in France v Romania

Hugo Lloris was France's hero in the first-half of their 2016 European Championship opener against Romania.

The Tottenham goalkeeper made a spectacular save to deny Bogdan Stancu's header from close-range in the early exchanges. Scroll down to watch the save.

France's defence has been highlighted as a possible Achilles' heal as they pursue their first major international success since Euro 2000.

Lloris was on hand to deny Stancu as he tried to prod the ball home from three yards out. For an instant, an entire nation's heart was in its mouth.

France are considered among the favourites to win Euro 2016 but they won't do so if their defending doesn't improve.

Lloris' save

Lloris, the captain, is a fine goalkeeper but he won't always be in the right place at the right time. 

Offensively, there are no concerns for France. Dimitri Payet, Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud all started, with Anthony Martial an option from the bench.

The opening game of the Euros remains 0-0.
