Former England midfielder Kieron Dyer has warned that England aren’t ready to go all the way at Euro 2016 because they “don’t have world-class players”.
Dyer, who was speaking at The Three Lions pub as part of Carlsberg’s ‘Pubstitutions’ campaign, said:
“What’s different from when I was playing is back then we had established world-class players, they were called the Golden Generation.

“We had Becks, Lamps, Gerrard, Scholes. Expectation was sky high.
“I don’t think we have that many world-class players right now. This squad is the youngest we’ve taken to a tournament. We’ll do well - I don’t think we’ll win it.”
As always, Roy Hodgson’s squad selection has been a subject of much debate, but Dyer seemed unsurprised by the manager’s decisions:
All about reputation
“Even back in the 90s when I was playing, England squads are picked on reputation”, he said.
“I’d have months at Newcastle when I didn’t have a good game, but then the England squad would be up and I’d be in there because it was about what they knew you could do.
He pinpointed Raheem Sterling as a top player who has made the cut based on his reputation rather than his form this season.
“I’m a Sterling fan but he was sub for Man City, not playing that much.”
“England have always been loyal to certain players.”
England fans are cautiously optimistic about the Three Lions' chances this summer, but with a squad full of promise as well as a few experienced heads, only time will tell if they can raise their game in France.
