Jamie Vardy’s wife has revealed the “horrific” details of being tear-gassed by French police prior to England’s clash with Russia last night.
Whilst travelling to the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, Rebekah Vardy was caught up in an incident where England supporters were “caged and treated like animals”.
She had initially posted a picture online of herself enjoying the atmosphere with a pint of beer in hand before England’s game but tweeted otherwise following the ordeal.

Rebekah wrote: “That has to be up there with the worst experience EVER at an away game!
“Tear-gassed for no reason, caged and treated like animals! Shocking!
“I witnessed this with my own eyes! I can’t comment on things I didn’t see but what I got caught up in was horrific and uncalled for.
“And this happened before the game even kicked off!”
On a night where Rebekah’s focus should have been on husband Jamie and England, she was instead forced to fear for her own welfare.
Indeed, trouble also brewed inside the stadium following the Three Lions’ 1-1 draw with Russia.
Shocking and violent footage emerged of Russian fans charging at their English counterparts in the stands and sparking mass brawls.
Where the game itself was concerned, England took the lead through a superb Eric Dier free-kick in the 73rd minute but conceded a last-minute equaliser to throw away all three points.
Roy Hodgson’s men face Wales on Thursday in what is regarded a must-win fixture.
