Arda Turan was booed by Turkey fans during the national team’s 3-0 defeat to Spain on Friday night.
The 29-year-old, as the team’s star player, became the fans’ scapegoat following a second successive defeat and, crucially, a second underwhelming team performance.
Arda reacted to the boos by standing on the ball and putting his hand up towards the Turks inside the Allianz Riviera in Nice, which probably didn’t help the situation, but you can understand why he must have felt bitterly disappointed with the reaction.

The Barcelona player, who has failed to impress at the Camp Nou since joining the Catalan giants from Atletico Madrid last summer, has represented his country on 93 occasions, scoring 17 goals in the process.
While his performances with Barcelona haven’t been up to scratch, the reaction from his club teammates after the final whistle on Friday night indicates that not only is he well-liked member of the dressing room but that they also felt sorry for him and wanted to comfort him.

His former Atletico Madrid teammates Koke and Juanfran also gave him a big hug.
Arda made it look like he wasn’t bothered by the reaction, but inside he must have been hurting.
Fatih Terim: Nobody deserves this
"Of course it was not good to see Arda booed by our fans," Turkey coach Fatih Terim was quoted as saying by the Mirror in his post-match press conference.
"No coach wants to see that situation. I think the expectations were very high but whatever happens, this shouldn’t occur.
"Nobody deserves this.
"The way they criticised Arda hurt our team.
"As they booed him it made an impact, but I cannot find another reason for that."
