Manchester City appear to be closing in on a deal for Schalke's highly-rated starlet Leroy Sane with reports suggesting a €50million fee is close to being agreed between the two clubs.
The 20-year-old has certainly drawn interest from a number of Europe's top clubs and sealing his signature will be quite the coup for Pep Guardiola. If they do indeed complete the deal, it could have the added bonus of scuppering the transfer plans of his managerial nemesis Jose Mourinho.
Both managers will resume their rivalry in the Premier League next season with the Special One taking charge of nearby Manchester United. Before that contest gets underway, however, both managers are expected to spend a lot of money transforming their respective squad.

One man Mourinho was hoping to sign was FC Basel starlet Breel Embolo. Alongside Sane, the Swiss forward is seen as one of Europe's brightest young stars and German newspaper Bild had only last week named United as the favourites to sign him in a €35m deal.
However, Swiss newspaper Blick believe Schalke, flush with the €50m that Manchester City are about to hand them for Sane, have become the new leaders of the race. The Bundesliga outfit see Embolo as the perfect replacement for Sane and are happy to reinvest much of the money into signing him.
In the Balance
As you would expect, Schalke's ideal scenario will be to keep Sane at the club and it appears as though their new manager Markus Weinzierl is pushing very hard to do just that.
The former Augsburg manager has been charged with the task of bringing Champions League football back to the Veltins Arena and is arguing that selling Sane will make that aim unachievable.
However, keeping Sane for another season would almost certainly see him leave for Bayern Munich next summer. The Bavarian outfit have a €37m option on the young forward which only kicks in at the end of next season. If he continues on his current trajectory, they are very likely to take up that option.
Embolo is likely to leave FC Basel whether it is to Manchester United or elsewhere. But Red Devils fans may have been put off by the fact that he revealed his favourite song to be Liverpool's famous 'You'll Never Walk Alone' anthem.
But his exceptional talent should be enough to convince anyone turned off by his taste in music. He has scored 31 goals and provided 22 assists in 90 matches for Basel and has shown signs of his immense talent for Switzerland at Euro 2016.
