Michael McGovern set for move following impressive Euro 2016

The Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern has recently come under the spotlight for his terrific performance against Germany.

Despite eventually being on the losing side during the Euro 2016 group stage game, the shot-stopper made a string of impressive saves, and although they lost, the result saw Northern Ireland safely through to the knockout stage.

Currently set to become a free agent when his contact with Hamilton Academical expires, he could soon see himself snapped up after such a sublime performance.

He impressed throughout the 90 minutes, conceding only once from 25 shots, making eight saves, as the Germans predictably dominated. 

He himself has described it as the performance of his career, and the 'keeper was applauded by his teammates back in the dressing room following the game.

Although the Germans called the goalkeeper "lucky", his manager was quick to come to his defence, describing his performance as "simply phenomenal".

The performance has reportedly caught the eye of Premier League sides, according to his agent, with Southampton believed to be one of them.

According to The Sun, Southampton are reportedly interested in signing McGovern initially as backup to current number one Fraser Forster.

The club are currently searching for a reliable backup 'keeper as Kelvin Davis has finally decided it's time to hang up his gloves.

It's only a matter of time before the 'keeper's next move is revealed, but no matter what the future holds, confidence will be high, as he has helped his country progress to the knockout stages of a tournament for the first time since 1982.
