Cesc Fabregas can write himself into European Championship history with Spain, if he steps up and scores for La Roja in a penalty shootout at Euro 2016.

The 29-year-old is one of 11 players to have scored in two separate penalty shootouts at a European Championship.

Now retired France internationals Zinedine Zidane, Bixente Lizarazu, Youri Djorkaeff, Vincent Guerin and Laurent Blanc are among the 11 names, having successfully converted spot-kicks in shootouts for Les Bleus on two separate occasions at the 1996 European Championship.

France beat Holland on penalties before losing to the Czech Republic on spot-kicks in the semi-finals with Reynald Pedros missing the decisive kick.

Several England internationals are also among the select group of 11 players with Alan Shearer, Stuart Pearce, David Platt and Paul Gascoigne all scored from the spot on two occasions at Euro 96 – first against Spain and then against Germany.

Dutch Doubler

Patrick Kluivert is the only other name on the list, aside from Fabregas, having scored in penalty shootouts for Holland at Euro 96 and Euro 2000.

However, all of these names could soon be erased from the history books should he step up and score for Spain in a penalty shootout at the European Championship.

Fabregas has previously converted shootout penalties against Italy in 2008 and Portugal in 2012.
