Arsenal were left waiting for weeks for Jamie Vardy to make a decision regarding a potential move to the Emirates but the Gunners were ultimately disappointed as the striker rejected a move to north London.
Vardy’s snub leaves Arsene Wenger back on the lookout for another striker as he seeks to end Arsenal’s 12-year wait for a Premier League trophy.
And, according to the Mirror, the Frenchman may have already found a Vardy alternative. That’s because it’s being reported that the Arsenal boss is meeting up with Alexandre Lacazette’s representatives this week in France.

Wenger was obviously keen to secure the services of Vardy after he scored 24 goals to help Leicester win the Premier League but, in Lacazette, the club would be getting an equally prolific striker.
In fact, the Frenchman has reached double figures in each of his three seasons, bagging 15, 27 and 21 goals respectively. Therefore, Lacazette, although he hasn’t played in England, is arguably a more proven goalscorer than Vardy.
While Wenger knew that Vardy was available for £20 million after they triggered his release clause, Lacazette will command a much bigger fee with the report quoting a figure in the region of £45 million.
But the Lyon striker has only just turned 25, meaning he’s four years younger than Vardy.
A new forward certainly seems to be Wenger’s next priority in this transfer window after he splashed £30 million on Granit Xhaka. Olivier Giroud was the club’s top goalscorer last season but he is still failing to win over many Gooners.
But while Giroud has helped the French reach the last eight at Euro 2016, Lacazette wasn’t even named in the 23-man squad by Didier Deschamps.
Battle to sign him
However, it seems as though Arsenal face some unlikely competition to sign the striker. London rivals West Ham are reportedly very keen to capture Lacazette and have already had a massive £42 million bid rejected as they look to start life at their new Olympic Stadium in style.
Arsenal will feel confident of beating West Ham to the signing due to their involvement in next season’s Champions League but the competition runners-up are also reportedly interested in Lacazette. Atletico Madrid also want to sign the forward to provide competition with Fernando Torres at the Vicente Calderon.
But it’s unlikely that Lacazette is the only striker Arsenal will be rumoured to be signing in the next couple of weeks. Alvaro Morata has also been heavily linked with a move to the club after he returned to Real Madrid as Los Blancos appear keen to sell him on for profit.
