Antonio Conte earned hero status as his Italy side knocked Spain out of Euro 2016.

The new Chelsea boss produced a perfect game-plan to beat the holders, goals from Giorgio Chiellini and Graziano Pelle inspiring the Azzurri to a 2-0 win.

As he prepares to embark on the Premier League’s challenge, Conte has done his reputation no harm. Italy were a class above their opponents and will provide Germany a stern challenge in the quarter-final.

His eccentric nature will make him a firm favourite in west London, who are probably only just getting round to the idea that Jose Mourinho is no longer in charge.

Conte gave England a hint of what to expect in the second half when he hilariously booted the ball away as it reached him on the touchline.
