Tottenham were thought to have agreed a £6 million transfer fee for the youngster in January, only for the move to fall through as they refused to agree to loan the player back to Fulham for the remainder of the season.
It is believed that the opportunity for regular first-team football is a major factor in Dembele’s decision, and Brendan Rodgers is understood to have made him his top priority signing for the summer. Certainly, Dembele can expect to receive an enthusiastic welcome from Celtic fans who have been craving some quality signings to join their high profile new manager.
Dembele has represented France at all age levels up to under-20 level, with many tipping him to become a full international before too long. He has made a total of 64 appearances for Fulham, including 17 goals in 46 games last season, as he formed a strong partnership with Scottish striker Ross McCormack.
Celtic were starting to look desperately short of numbers in attack, with Stefen Scepovic looking set to return to Spain with Getafe leaving just Leigh Griffiths and Nadir Ciftci as the only senior strikers remaining on the books.
The Hoops fans will now look forward to Dembele joining 40 goal striker Griffiths in what they will hope to be a potent forward line next season.
