CM Punk says he could return to wrestling in the future

It is fair to say that CM Punk had a less than cordial break-up with the WWE back at the start of 2014.

The former World Heavyweight Champion, who was unhappy with having to work injured and barely getting any rest or time at home, left the company following the Royal Rumble - which he stated he performed in with a bad staph infection. The WWE then hit back by sending Punk his termination papers on the day of his wedding.

So, when Punk was asked about potentially making a return to the WWE, you can imagine that his response would be rather frosty.

Wrestling? Yes WWE? No

Appearing on ESPN's Russillo & Kanell Show yesterday, the wrestler turned MMA fighter stated that he could return to wrestling in the future but never with Vince McMahon and the WWE.

"No, I don't think so. But it is one of those "never say never" things," Punk stated. "I like to cover all my bases, just so some internet dweeb is going to be like, 'you said you'd never wrestle again!'

The Masked Ninja

"But WWE? No. Absolutely not. But you never know, I could pop up here and there. Let me explain that to you even better... it's not going to even be televised, it's going to be me in a ninja f--king outfit wrestling one of my buddies and nobody's ever going to know. It's going to be very 'Monty Python' so to speak."

CM Punk is basically going to be the new Mr America, the character Hulk Hogan created when he was banned by WWE but wrestled under a mask. What a time to be alive.

Punk is now preparing for his first ever fight in the UFC, and depending on how that bout with Mickey Gall goes, his return to wrestling could either be significantly sped up thanks to a loss, or pushed into the future by a win over the up-and-comer.

So, if you ever see Colt Cobana or Chris Hero take on a guy in a mask that nobody has heard of before, just be aware that it could be CM Punk.
