John Cena is the biggest star in the WWE today, there is nobody doubting that. The veteran performer sells more merchandise than anyone else and is still massively over with the younger generation of WWE fans.
Speaking of a younger generation, there is a new crop of WWE stars who have hit the main roster in the past few months and are causing a bit of a stir.
Cena has noted this and seems to be enjoying it, name-dropping Enzo Amore and Big Cass in particular, seeming to indicate that he sees a big future for the electrifying tag team.
Enzo and Cass
Cena recently spoke with Inquirer.net while promoting the WWE in Shanghai and when asked about who he sees himself in these days, his mind went straight to the much-loved duo.
“I look at Enzo Amore and Big Cass only because they are so immediately identifiable as characters," Cena started off as saying, before adding that they seem like updated versions of the Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick that he used to role with back in his early days on the WWE roster.
"It kind of reminds me when I was doing hip-hop piece of my persona. I like that because Enzo is not necessarily a typical mold of, ‘Hey, this is going to be awesome.’ But even back in his early days in NXT, he caught my attention."
John isn't lying, he knew about Enzo and Cass, and how big they were going to be before anyone else did.
It's a story that has been told before but Cena once went down to NXT and faced off against Damien Sandow in a segment out in front of the Full Sail crowd. Cena was introduced to Amore and Cassady backstage and liked what he saw so much that he invited them to come out with him to face Sandow.
This was before Enzo and Cass had even debuted, but they made sure to drop a "SAWFT" on Sandow and it helped get them over massively the next week when they did debut.
Good guy John Cena strikes again ladies and gentlemen. Let's all hope he has a program with E&C in the not-too-distant future.
