Wales fans give players superb reception after Portugal defeat

It’s been an amazing journey, but Wales’ Euro 2016 campaign has finally come to an end at the hands of Portugal.

Gareth Bale and co have put on superb performances in their country’s first international tournament since the 1958 World Cup. It’s fair to say they’ve done their nation proud.

While all the squad and Chris Coleman have been at their best this summer, so have their supporters. Even in defeat, the Welsh fans were in song and managed to drown out their Portuguese rivals.

Pride amid defeat

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani saw Wales defeated 2-0 in their highly anticipated semi-final. Despite the loss however, the players and fans alike showed great pride in acknowledgement of their achievement.

Having fought their way to a stage that teams such as England, Italy and Spain couldn’t even reach, there’s no wonder Wales are so proud.

The tournament has also been one of fantastic supporters. While Iceland and the Republic of Ireland have soaked up the most publicity as regards their fans, Wales have been fantastic also.

It’s understandably a heartbreaking defeat and a bitter pill to swallow, but it will prove a tournament that lives long in the memory for Wales.

Whether it’s Gareth Bale’s freekicks or Hal Robson-Kanu’s turn and finish, Chris Coleman’s men have done it all to the sound of their partisan fans. They won’t be forgetting the campaign in a hurry and who would blame them?
