Barcelona unveil new away kit for 2016/17

Published 2 Comments

It has reached that time of year where almost every other day a big club release images of their star men donning the latest kit to be used in the upcoming season.

Today it was Barcelona's turn and the Catalan giants didn't disappoint with their bold and innovative new away kit collection.

Manufactured by Nike, the designers have surprisingly picked to use the same colour worn by their huge La Liga rivals Real Madrid - purple.

A darker but more striking shade than their biggest enemy's version is combined with an eye-catching pink lining, which also happens to be the colour of the socks.

The design maintains the club's tradition of bright and dazzling away kits and captain Andres Iniesta says their latest uniform fitted with AeroSwift technology actually makes him feel quicker.

He told the club's website: "The fusion of the traditional red and blue makes this shirt fresh and striking, but at the same time connected with our history.

"In addition, thanks to the new technology we feel much more agile and fast."

Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez all joined their captain in the images featured in the big launch and the new shirts are already available to purchase online.

Replica tops are currently being sold at Barcelona's official online shop for £65 while the kids size is valued at £28.

The 'Vapour Match' version worn by Messi and Co. is also available at a more costly price of £100.

You may have also noticed the absence of a main sponsor but that could change in the near future.

The previous agreement with Qatar Airways expired at the end of June but the company are locked in a battle with Amazon to extend their deal through the upcoming campaign, with Barcelona unwilling to accept anything less than £55.6 million a season.

Tomorrow also marks a big day for Spanish clubs as the fixtures for the 2016/17 La Liga season are to be announced and although Barcelona are likely to wear their new gear at some point over pre-season, we should get a good indication of when we can expect to see the Catalans donning purple in competitive action.
