Arsenal's hopes of signing Julian Draxler have suffered a major blow, with his current club insisting he is not for sale.

Wolfsburg chief Klaus Allofs said, as per the Mirror:

"The situation with Draxler is 100 percent certain that he will be staying at Wolfsburg. There is no discussing that."

The Germany international has been linked with a £55million move to north London, with Liverpool and Manchester United also reportedly interested.

Arsenal frustrated

Arsenal fans have been growing increasingly frustrated by the Gunners' failure to bring in a goalscorer this summer, particularly after Jamie Vardy snubbed a move in favour of staying at Leicester.

Draxler would have been a promising, albeit expensive, option, though the Emirates faithful will still demand that Arsene Wenger brings in an out-and-out striker, not an attacking midfielder.

The 22-year-old showed his eye for goal at Euro 2016, scoring a beautifully-struck goal in Germany's last-16 game against Slovakia, while also finding the back of the net five times in the league last season.

Draxler wants European football

Wolfsburg are in a difficult position because Draxler has expressed a desire to play Champions League football, which the Bundesliga side can't offer him and, of course, Arsenal can.

Draxler has been on Wenger's radar for some time. The Gunners first tried to sign him three years ago, when he was with Schalke, but instead opted for Mesut Ozil.

Last season's performances made it clear that Ozil on his own is not enough, but if Wolfsburg are going to continue playing hardball, it may be worth Arsenal looking elsewhere.
