There can be little doubting that Jose Mourinho inheriting the Manchester United manager’s role has been one of the stories of the summer.

After weeks of speculation, press conferences and posing with shirts, The Special One has finally started work at Old Trafford this summer. The ex-Chelsea boss took his first training session this week with new signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan being put through their paces.

However, it’s been Michael Carrick who has revealed the nature of Mourinho’s training and how he’s gotten to grips with his new side. The English midfielder was certainly surprised.

“When you get a new manager, pre season is always a little bit different because it’s a new personality and new ways. But you approach the season as any other and you’ve got to prepare yourself to be ready for the battle.

New regime

It’s certainly an interesting insight into the Mourinho era at Old Trafford and perhaps a sign that the 53-year-old is taking a different approach.

The Portuguese tactician is renowned for his rigid strategies and ruthless team selections. However, after his doomed campaign with Chelsea last season, he may be welcoming change.

Going soft on his players may appear out of the blue, but there always seems to be method behind the madness when it comes to Mourinho.

Besides, Carrick seems to be speaking positively of the managerial switch and there’s a lot to look forward to if you’re a United fan. With The Special One at the reins, you can only go so far wrong.
