Mourinho has named a 25-man squad for the matches against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, but could find no room for James Wilson.
The 20-year-old started against Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon, Mourinho’s first match in charge of the Premier League giants, but struggled to make an impact at the DW Stadium.
Will Keane gets the nod over Wilson
Will Keane, his second-half replacement, came on and scored three minutes later. Mourinho has subsequently selected the 23-year-old, whose career has been hindered by injuries, for the trip to Shanghai.
Who else is going to China?
David de Gea and captain Wayne Rooney are also included, despite their participation at Euro 2016. As are Marcus Rashford, Chris Smalling and Paddy McNair.
Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo are also involved, even though they helped Argentina reach the final of the Copa America this summer.
New signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan travel, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not part of the 25-man squad.
Mourinho will also use the next two matches to take a closer look at youngsters Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Axel Tuanzebe, Andreas Pereira and Adnan Januzaj.
