Jose Mourinho reacts to Manchester United's 4-1 defeat

Published 13 Comments

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that he wasn't surprised by his side's thumping defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.

The German outfit secured a comfortable 4-1 victory over the Red Devils, but Mourinho has highlighted the fact that Thomas Tuchel's side are way ahead of his team in their preparations for the new campaign.

Dortmund were playing in their fifth fixture of the summer, while the game represented just United's second of pre-season.

Mourinho, then, failed to criticise his player, instead suggesting that Dortmund were always going to come out on top in the game.

The United boss stated: "I think in pre-season the team that wins is always the team that is in the advanced stage of the preparation. Never the best team."

Jose reacts

"A team with four matches in their legs against a team with one match, it was obvious. A huge difference in the preparation."

Poor United

Despite Mourinho's comments, there weren't too many positives from a United point of view. Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored his first goal for the club, of course, but Mourinho's side were well beaten.

Goals from Gonzalo Castro and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Dortmund in control before half-time, while Ousmane Dembele added another with a wonderful solo goal.

As mentioned, Mkhitaryan scored for United, but Castro had the final say with a bullet from outside the box.

The club's faithful will now be hoping to see a better performance from the side against rivals Manchester City on Monday.
