One man who knows exactly what Demba Ba is currently going through is Luke Shaw.
The Manchester United left-back has only just returned to action following 10 agonising months on the sidelines.
Shaw suffered a double fracture of his right leg in a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven last season but, thanks to the work of doctors, has made a complete recovery.

Ba is significantly older than Shaw in footballing terms - he turned 31 in May - and recovering from such a bad injury at his age will be far from straightforward.
However, the Shanghai Shenhua striker told reporters earlier this week that he has no plans to call time on his playing career and hopes to be back in action when the next Chinese Super League season gets underway next March.

Ba has received many messages of goodwill
Ba has received messages of goodwill from his former clubs, teammates and football fans across the world.
The ex-West Ham, Newcastle United and Chelsea forward has also been visited in hospital by Sun Xiang, the man responsible for the challenge that caused the serious injury.
“Ba was understanding. He said let bygones be bygones and that’s what life is about,” Sun was quoted as saying by Shanghai Daily this week. “Hope it’s the first time and also the last time (that I cause such a serious injury). To a professional player, injury is not a good thing.”
But Shaw’s message will mean a lot to Ba, given he’s one of the few people who’s able to empathise with the emotions he’s currently experiencing.

“Hi Demba, I’m so sorry to hear about the news of your latest injury.
“Obviously I’ve been through the same thing, so I know how you’re feeling right now, but I think the main thing for you now is to keep strong and keep your family and friends close because for me that was the most important thing at the time.
“I’m sending you all my best and I hope the operations go well and your recovery goes quick and you’re back on the pitch in no time.
“I’m sure you’ll be stronger than ever.”
