Arsenal's desperate search for a striker appeared to be drawing close to a conclusion at the start of this year's summer transfer window, with Jamie Vardy the man to finally fill the gaping void in Arsene Wenger's squad.

The Leicester City man's release clause was triggered by the Gunners and it appeared as if the Premier League's second highest goal scorer last season was on the cusp of a move to North London.

Vardy then jetted off to the Euros before confirming his desire to remain at the champions, much to the dismay of man Arsenal fans.

However, Vardy's loyalty to the Premier League's greatest ever underdog story could have an ugly conclusion for the England man, with two of the club's stars set to embark on an exodus to bigger sides.

One of them, N'Golo Kante, has officially departed to Antonio Conte's Chelsea and now Leicester's creator-in-chief and Vardy's offensive partner in crime, Riyad Mahrez, looks set to depart as well.

What will make it even more agonising for the 29-year-old striker is that the Algerian midfielder looks set to join the club he rejected, Arsenal.

Of course, a situation such as this was not spared by the Arsenal section of Twitter with many trolls delivering a brutal verdict on Vardy's current ordeal.

Football and trust simply do not go hand in hand anymore. Sorry Vardy but you've learnt the hard way.
