With the brand extension coming into full effect next week, fans of both shows will once again look forward to brand-exclusive pay-per-views as SmackDown Live kicks things off with the returning Backlash event.
Despite both brands sharing the big four shows in WrestleMania, Survivor Series, SummerSlam and the Royal Rumble, it’s a former WCW pay-per-view that has fans most excited.

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Sasha Banks have been advertised for the event, while Charlotte and the New Day are set to head into the event as the Women’s and Tag Team Champions respectively.
Regardless of who her opponent is at SummerSlam; Charlotte is expected to retain while the New Day could continue their record-breaking reign.
Rusev was drafted to Raw in the draft, along with Lana and his United States Championship. At Battleground, he’s scheduled to defend the title against SmackDown’s Zack Ryder and the website suggests we may see a title change.
The Bulgarian Brute is advertised to compete as the Intercontinental Champion instead. The title is currently held by The Miz, who is defending it against Darren Young at Battleground as well.
It doesn’t seem like a mistake either, as they updated the event details on their website as recently as the WWE draft on Tuesday night.
This suggests that two championships could be changing hands on Sunday night. A Ryder win would see the United States Championship move to Tuesday’s, while a surprising win for Young could give Rusev an opportunity to capture it before September.
Is Rusev better suited to the Intercontinental Championship? Have your say in the comments section below.
