Chelsea's pre-season clash against Liverpool was supposed to be a friendly, but the game didn't exactly turn out that way.
Indeed, during a heated fixture in the US, six yellow cards were shown in total, while playmaker Cesc Fabregas was dismissed from the field of play following a reckless challenge on new Liverpool signing Ragnar Klavan.
As you can see in the video below, it was a poorly timed tackle from the Spaniard and he was rightly sent off.

For Fabregas to make the tackle in a pre-season friendly was certainly surprising, but he deserves credit for entering the Liverpool dressing room to apologise after the game.
"It's a red card and I hope it's not a mentality issue,” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said, per the Liverpool Echo.

Klopp and Conte react
“He (Fabregas) came in the dressing room and said sorry, he came too late in the challenge.
“Sometimes in life if you are too late then you get a red card. That's how it was."
Chelsea chief Antonio Conte, meanwhile, apologised for Fabregas' challenge and insisted that the tackle was out of character for the midfielder.
Conte said, as per the Mirror: "I am sorry and the player is too. I am sorry for him and the Liverpool player."
"In this period it is easy to go too late into a tackle.
"I know Fabregas is a good man and a good boy and he is not the type of player to have this situation."
While Klopp and Conte were clearly in agreement that Fabregas deserved to be shown a red card, Chelsea's official Twitter account didn't appear to be so sure.
Moments after the controversial incident, the club tweeted: 'Cesc Fabregas receives a red card for a foul on Ragnar Klavan. It was a late challenge but it seems a little harsh. #CFCTour'

As you can imagine, then, there was a great deal of reaction to Chelsea's tweet. Liverpool fans couldn't quite believe that the club's official account had claimed that the sending off was 'a little harsh'.
