Having seen their club pay £29million to sign Roberto Firmino last summer, Liverpool fans expected the Brazilian attacker to hit the ground running in his debut season.
But as always seems to be the case, Firmino needed time to adapt to the rigours of English football and only managed to provide glimpses of just why Brendan Rodgers paid so much money to seal his signature.
Now, he is about to enter his second season, widely regarded as crunch time for foreign imports in the Premier League. He will be under pressure to start paying back some of that massive transfer fee.
Well if his performance against AC Milan on Saturday night was anything to go by, he has nothing to worry about. In fact, there is a chance he will be considered a bargain by the time the 2016/17 campaign comes to a close.
Firmino contributed to the 2-0 victory by grabbing a goal in the second half, adding to Divock Origi's opener, but it was his skills that caught the imagination.
One particular moment is currently doing the rounds on the Internet and you will know exactly why when you see it. Receiving the ball in the corner of the pitch, Firmino seemed to have no way out.
But he then pulled off a skill so outrageous, it almost melted our faces. The only reason it didn't actually come off – the trick, not our faces – is because Ignazio Abate shoved Firmino to the ground. To be fair to the Italy international, we would have all done the same.
Undeterred by that foul, Firmino continued to pull off the flicks and tricks and was later spotted doing something fairly similar. He was obviously having a lot of fun playing in the International Champions Cup and fans will hope he continues in the same vein when the Premier League kicks off in two weeks.
