Arsenal may have failed in their pursuit of Jamie Vardy but it seems they have turned their attentions to another Leicester star.

That man is, of course, Riyad Mahrez.

The PFA Player of the Year was instrumental as the Foxes pulled off the magnificent 5000/1 feat of winning the Premier League by scoring 17 and assisting a further 11.

Therefore, it’s very little surprise that teams such as Arsenal are interested in signing the winger.

But are Arsenal actually keen to sign him, or is it just paper-talk? Well, who better to ask than Arsene Wenger himself.

A reporter for BeIN Sport asked the French boss if there was any truth behind the speculation surrounding Mahrez, considering he was watching Leicester’s friendly against Paris Saint-Germain.

Looking rather sheepish, Wenger replied: “Yes, of course, we watch all of the players. We play Leicester in the second game of the Championship so, of course, it’s a good opportunity for us tonight to see them.”

The reporter was obviously unimpressed with Wenger’s response and continued to push for some clarity on the Mahrez situation.

“Do you want Mahrez, though, yes or no?” he asked.

In typical style, Wenger said: “I cannot give you yes or no because we do not publicise our transfer interests. The way to make things happen is to keep things as secret as possible.”

The reporter was still not happy and asked, once again, “have you bid for him, though?”

Wenger said: “I don’t think you understood very well what I just told you.”

It’s fair to say Wenger doesn’t have a very good poker face though and his huge smirk throughout the interview suggested that he is very keen to sign Mahrez. But don't expect Wenger to say anything about the Leicester player unless he eventually signs.
