He is undoubtedly one of the most controversial players in the Premier League. However, despite all the antics that come with him, Chelsea must try and keep Diego Costa at the club.

Many thought that the appointment of the charismatic Italian Antonio Conte would bring an end to Costa's spell at the club, but that shouldn't be the case. There is certainly a role for the Spaniard to play at Stamford Bridge.

During his two years in England, Costa has certainly made a big impression. He has scored 32 goals in 54 Premier League games for Chelsea, helping fire them to the 2014/15 Premier League title, while becoming a definite favourite amongst supporters.

He has also had his fair share of controversial moments during his time at Stamford Bridge, though.

He picked up a three-match ban in the League Cup semi-final a year ago for a stamp on Mamadou Sakho and was stuck with a similar ban last September for an altercation with Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny.

The good outweighs the bad with Costa, though. He is a man who certainly knows where the goal is, and he definitely suits the way Chelsea play.

The Blues have been at their best in recent years when they have a focal point to their attack, in particular when Didier Drogba was there.

Costa's game is very similar to that of Drogba's. He relies heavily on his physical presence and is regularly a menace for defenders both with and without the ball at his feet.

The 27-year-old has gone through lean goal scoring periods at both Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, but that doesn't mean he should be left out. He is a player who gives everything for the cause on the pitch, and that is something Antonio Conte will certainly be looking for.

Rumours have linked Costa with a return to Atletico, and high-ranking figures at the club have confirmed there is interest in making this happen. However, this interest may have cooled as a result of the signing of Frenchman Kevin Gameiro from Sevilla.

There is certainly a feeling that Chelsea will be back among the teams fighting it out for the Premier League title next season, and if they keep hold of Costa, this is something they will definitely be capable of.
