We don't care who or what you know, Paul Pogba is not yet a Manchester United player. Until the man is holding up a red shirt with his name on the back on ManUtd.com, you can't say otherwise.
But speculation regarding the midfielder's reported £100million move to Old Trafford has reached fever pitch. Whatever Pogba does, Manchester United fans will be there, speculating, wondering, begging him to just confirm the move.
That is exactly what is happening right this very instance.
Pogba caused a mini frenzy when he posted a photo on Instagram of him on an aeroplane. Manchester United fans took this to mean he was travelling to England to complete his move. There was no evidence for this assumption, just hope.
Reliable L'Equipe journalist Nabil Djellit has since claimed the 23-year-old was in fact travelling to New York for the latest leg of his one-man US tour. Djellit is rarely wrong about all things France, so we are happy to take his word for it.
But probably unbeknownst to him, Djellit has just sent a large amount of Manchester United fans into a state of panic. That is because some clever-clogs has just realised that the Real Madrid squad are, at this moment, travelling to New York to take on Bayern Munich.
Oh, the horror.
To put it in context, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has been pushing for his club to make a move to sign his fellow Frenchman. To boot, Pogba is believed to dream of playing for Los Blancos and would readily reject Manchester United for them if an offer came along.
The fact that they are now in the same city has led many to believe that Real Madrid are preparing one final offensive. Take a look at some of the funniest reaction below:
It was only last week that Zidane hinted that Real Madrid were still very much in the race to sign Pogba.
Zidane said: “I don’t know if he will come. Until 31 August anything can happen. Everyone is interested in Pogba. He is a great footballer and when you are Madrid you always want the best. But now he is not a Real Madrid player, he is a Juventus player. I can’t say anything more.”
You don't need to, Zinedine. You don't need to.
