The first guest star of the new era was announced on Monday when the WWE confirmed a Rolling Stone report that Sean 'Puff Daddy' Combs would be appearing on Monday Night Raw next week.
Combs is no stranger to the WWE as he worked with the company on their Tribute to the Troops special in 2010.and he appeared on stage at Wrestlemania 29.
This will however be Combs first appearance on Raw and his first work with the company since appearing at the Showcase of the Immortals back in 2013.
The guest star concept is some that the WWE pushed hard in 2009 and 2010. During this period the host concept was watered down as a new face was part of the show every week seemingly regardless of their product knowledge or desire to be there.
Combs is an interesting choice for a guest star. He is said to be a WWE fan, so he should be fine in terms of knowing the product. The 46-year old is also in fantastic shape, so the possibilities for his involvement are endless.
I think you can expect to see Combs get involved in a match or feud somewhere in the upper mid-card. It is even possible, and not too much of a stretch, to think that Combs might be involved in a tag team match. Either way expect him to hit someone (Chris Jericho?) at some point during the show.
If the WWE really wants Raw and Smackdown to feel like separate shows then making Raw more of an entertainment spectacle (with solid wrestling along the way) is a good call. With that in mind Puff Daddy is the right kind of star to move the brand in that direction.
