With just 11 days remaining until Arsenal’s opening Premier League fixture against Liverpool, the Gunners have only made one notable addition to their squad.

They moved early to secure the signing of Granit Xhaka for £30million but the arrivals of Rob Holding and Takuma Asano have done very little to excite Arsenal fans since.

But, in recent days, it seems the north London club have been rather busy chasing transfer targets and could add a couple of new signings before next Sunday’s clash with Liverpool.

And Arsenal fans have been given a major boost after the board have told Arsene Wenger he can have “whatever transfer funds it takes” to secure his two main targets.

That's according to The Times who claim that the Frenchman has been given the go-ahead to splash the cash on Alexandre Lacazette and Shkodran Mustafi. Ahead of the summer transfer window, Wenger was limited to a total spending of £100million but the board are now willing to stretch that further.

Lacazette

Wenger seems very keen to sign Lyon striker Lacazette, with the club being linked with the 25-year-old for many weeks.

The French club have already very publicly rejected a £31.8million bid from the Gunners for their star man, with reports suggesting that they are holding out for £40m.

Even Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has admitted that they’re willing to accept the right offer for Lacazette.

“He can leave if Lyon want him to. There are some offers that you cannot refuse,” he said.

Mustafi

But it’s not just a new striker that Arsenal need. Wenger is also desperate to add a new centre-back to their squad before the start of the Premier League.

After Per Mertesacker was ruled out until the new year, the French boss has admitted that he believes he will buy a new centre-back before the window slams shut.

“I don’t count that Per will be back before the end of the year and I will miss him deeply, we have lost a heavyweight in our dressing room,” he said.

“We are still in the market for players, whether it is at the front or the back. Unfortunately we are not alone.

"Do I think we will sign an experienced central defender before the season starts? Yes, I do.”

That defender looks likely to be Mustafi. Arsenal have been heavily linked with the Valencia man who is valued at around £35million.

Arsenal fans

But those Arsenal fans that fear their board may not cough up the cash needed to sign both Lacazette and Mustafi will now be pleasantly surprised with the board's latest move.

Gooners will obviously be delighted that they are finally willing to dip into their pockets to secure the signings of two players they desperately need, it’s just a question whether Wenger will decide to exactly that.
