We saw recently, with one fan's persistent attempts to get a pitch-side selfie with Cristiano Ronaldo during Euro 2016, that fans will go to extraordinary lengths to meet the biggest names in the sport.
But, while that fan was lucky enough to get his priceless photo, their efforts don't always end up going quite according to plan, as one man desperate to meet Lionel Messi found out to his cost this week.

Rather than getting to hug his hero, however, he was on the receiving end of a brutal response from one alert security guard.
The mobile phone footage shows things starting off well as the fan lands what is a scarily high leap of faith. Things turn south pretty quickly after that, though, as he makes a b-line for Messi.
There is so much going on here. From the fan's spiderman jump, to the security guard's expertly timed spear tackle out of nowhere, right the way to Messi's nonchalant response.
The multi-time Balon d'Or winner doesn't even flinch despite what could well have been a dangerous situation - it is like this type of thing that happens every day of the year.

Hopefully the fan's pride (and ribs) weren't hurt too badly by the security guard's intervention. Maybe he should just simply wait in line outside the stadium next time, though, like most normal people.
