Grimsby are set to sign Ipswich midfielder Liam Trotter on an initial one-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old has made five appearances for the Tractor Boys this season but is now set to move to Blundell Park in order to gain more first-team experience, starting with Saturday's trip to Morecambe.

Caretaker manager Stuart Watkiss told the club's official website: "We've managed to persuade Ipswich to let him out. He`s an attacking midfielder and he will definitely be in the squad on Saturday."

He added: "He's 6ft 2in and is obviously a big strong lad. I`ve also spoken to another Championship club about another player and I am hoping to bring in a player from a Premiership club next week."

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton told the Tractor Boys' official website: "It`s important that our younger players are gaining experience of first-team football all the time.

"Liam will have a chance of getting regular football over the next month and that will add to his education in the game."
