Wolves to appeal Iwelumo dismissal

Published Add your comment

Wolves have confirmed they are to lodge an appeal with the Football Association over Chris Iwelumo's red card in Saturday's 3-1 win over Preston.

The Championship pace-setters insist the striker was wrongfully dismissed when shown red for an alleged headbutt on North End's Sean St Ledger following an aerial clash with the defender.

Club officials will now submit video evidence and statements to Soho Square by Wednesday lunchtime, when it is understood a hearing will then take place.

Both players visited referee Martin Atkinson following the full-time whistle to insist any clash had been accidental.

Meanwhile, Wolves have also confirmed they will not appeal goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey's red card for bringing down Neil Mellor in the closing stages of the victory at Deepdale.
