Liverpool edge past brave Alex

Published Add your comment

Liverpool secured their place in the fourth round of the Carling Cup after goals from Daniel Agger and Lucas gave them a 2-1 victory over Crewe.

Denmark international Agger broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when he smashed home a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area before Michael O'Connor equalised from a Crewe corner 10 minutes later.

The impressive Jermaine Pennant supplied a pinpoint cross for Lucas to head home in the 58th minute while Crewe goalkeeper Steve Collis twice denied substitute Fernando Torres.
