Michel Kuipers' save from Michael Ball gave Brighton a shock 5-3 win on penalties against Manchester City's millionaires in the Carling Cup second round tie at the Withdean.

Fans flooded the pitch after Kuipers kept Ball's shot out with David Livermore, Tommy Elphick, Glenn Murray and Adam Virgo all having hit the target for Brighton before Matt Richards stepped up to clinch it.

Gelson Fernandes had finally taken a chance for wasteful City in the 64th minute and it looked enough to win it until Murray slotted an 89th-minute Brighton equaliser. The shock looked on when Joe Anyinsah lashed Albion ahead five minutes into extra-time but Stephen Ireland's reply 10 minutes later forced the shoot-out.
