Finn Balor could defeat Seth Rollins.

Finn Balor rumoured to be crowned the WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam

Published 35 Comments

The main event of SummerSlam looks a lot different to the original plan, with the newly-debuting Finn Balor taking on Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship.

A lot has been said over the past couple of weeks regarding the decision to have Balor challenge Rollins for the brand new championship title, and if rumours are to be believed, Balor could be causing a huge upset.

CageSideSeats are reporting that the current plan is for Balor to defeat the former WWE Champion, and become Monday Night Raw’s Universal Champion in the process.

No star has had a debut quite like his, not even Kevin Owens who left John Cena laying in the centre of the ring last year.

Not only is he in line to walk out the champion, but it's also set to be an even bigger spectacle with The Demon making his first main roster appearance.

Vince McMahon and Triple H have reportedly approved this decision, which suggests Balor is going to be the face of Raw for a long time to come. At this moment, it makes complete sense as to why the WWE are going to have Balor win the title, especially if Vince is happy with his performances.

In fact, Vince wanted Balor to jump to the main roster last year, but with injuries to several NXT stars, Triple H wanted to keep him on NXT as Vince reluctantly agreed, while it’s worked out for everyone.

Triple H also wants Balor to win because a win for him is a win for NXT. He’s become synonymous with the NXT brand and it goes to show just what working on NXT can result in, as Balor could set the benchmark for those that follow, especially in such a short space of time.

Vince is also said to be souring on Roman Reigns since his failed drugs test. He’s now working a programme with Rusev and the United States Championship, despite original plans having him in line to face Rollins for the title Balor is now favourite to win.

The WWE are famous for changing their plans at the last minute, but despite so many surprises already taking place since the brand split, it won’t be a massive surprise to see Balor get one over on The Man.
