Kevin Owens unhappy with being a round four pick in the WWE draft

Although the WWE draft is now in the books and the brand extension is in full effect, fans are still discussing which stars were either picked too high or were unfairly picked too late.

We know how it works; it’s obviously a kayfabe draft with the picks being agreed upon beforehand. However, it’s clear that the stars picked early in the draft are valued higher than those picked late.

DOES THE ORDER MATTER?

For example, Finn Balor was a top pick and is, therefore, more valuable and more inclined to receive more opportunities than this year’s Mr Irrelevant, Curtis Axel.

This doesn’t stop the stars themselves disputing where they ended up in the draft, as we’ve heard Cesaro showcase his displeasure at being on Monday Night Raw rather than SmackDown Live, something that wasn’t scripted.

Now it was Kevin Owens’ turn. During a SummerSlam media call, he made it clear that he was unhappy with where he was picked.

He said: “I was picked way later than I should have been. I mean, I understand not being picked before Roman Reigns or John Cena or Ambrose or Seth Rollins, those guys have been the figureheads of WWE for several years now.

“I even understand being picked above Charlotte, who was the Women’s Champion at the time, and who was the face of the Women’s division.

SLAP IN THE FACE

“Even Finn Balor, who was coming up from NXT – he’s a big deal.

“But being picked as late as I was, was kind of a slap in the face, to be honest. But I’ll use it as motivation as to why I should be the face of Raw.”

You can understand his frustration; he had an incredible year since his debut, and there was no reason why he shouldn’t have been picked higher when he achieved a lot more than others before him.

The key thing to understand is that the stars were probably aware of where they’d end up, and the top stars may have even been aware of the order. However, it would obviously be disheartening to find out that you’ve been drafted lower down than expected.
